Oh dear...
20 August 2023 08:23I'm not usually prone to squee when I love something (unless it's cute animals, obviously. I squee over my cat's toebeans, exposed belly, and loving looks all the time. She breaks me when she politely tap-taps my arm for attention or food). I had a total fannish squee moment the day before yesterday, though.
My mum, who's been ill, was halfheartedly watching S2 of Good Omens for some quality, healing Tennant-time. I set it running for her because neither of us have adapted to our new TV setup since cancelling cable, and I was fiddling around getting the sound and subtitles how she wanted them as the opening scene played. I wasn't really watching (I can't multi-task) but I somehow registered that when angel!Crowley gets agitated in that scene, his wings poof like a stressy birb, then flatten again as he starts looking defeated.
OMG. I mean, wow, the detail, that's worth appreciating. But this was more a visceral, fannish, "oh, David Tennant being adorkable with wings, nice!" meeting my lifelong adoration of everything avian, including the expressive feathery bits. Angel poofyfloof.
OMG squee.
I've been trying to think back over the years and identify other causes of fannish squee outbreaks, but I can't. I really don't do it often but I wish I did. It's a lovely, buoyant feeling. I need more of it.
