I'm pretty sure mother and I have just had Covid. Mild, atypical, mostly stomach-only in my case, icky but totally survivable, but full blown coughing in hers. I've been nursing her for a fortnight. (It was her own fault. She insisted on going out in a "more comfortable" mask - the sort that protects others from your spray, but not you from theirs). We both had a couple of negative lateral flow tests, but since our lifestyle self-isolates us by default, I didn't try for any more advanced testing.

Mum's had her third vaccination dose but it probably hadn't had time to do her much good before she came down with the probably-Covid plague. I've been struggling to book my booster dose - I've technically been eligible for a while, but we have only one vaccination site locally, it's only just let me past the "date of birth?" page of the form, and the only available appointment is on 5th Jan, hours after my bedtime! What happened to the "every corner pharmacy will be jabbing arms like tiny local jabbing machines!" propaganda?

Oh, and if you're disabled or have limited mobility (and no car), stuff you: for most local citizens it's a two-or-three bus trip to the single venue where they're holding the vaccination clinic, and the vaccination buses from the main hub got cut from 20 minutes to hourly the day before my first dose. There's nowhere accessible to pee and nowhere at all to sit and wait for the return bus - no shelter either. I got caught out and soaked/exhausted on my first trip, fell over in the steep, cramped portacabin toilet on my second, and am sulking while I await progress on booking my third. This time I may wait for the GP to contact me and offer some assistance closer to home. It's not like I want to go anywhere. There's bound to be a pop-up bus sooner or later (though last time they were only for the under 30's?!)

ETA: It's got even more speshul: the vaccination centre bus has now been discontinued. You have to go to the nearest park and ride site, the bus for which doesn't collect from the town centre bus hub but some way out on a main shopping street, uphill, where there's no shelter or seating. You then have to take a third-or-fourth bus from the park and ride to the mass vaccination centre and back (but hey, that one's free! "Most shuttle buses are wheelchair accessible but we do not guarantee this for every journey". Huzzah!). And they wonder why so many people, without being remotely in the anti-vaccination camp/ obstructive/ unwilling, are not getting on with getting this third thing done.

oh wow this is a nightmare, I am so sorry you had to go through all that. This is why I go out as little as possible because when public transit is involved it just turns into shenanigans and not the good kind.

Hope you and your mom are doing much better now *hugs*
