nym_wibbly2020 seems determined to be the suck that keeps on giving right up to its last gasp. It started out trying to burn down Australia and basically went downhill from there.
Watching portions of humanity use technology to unite in the face of the first global pandemic of the modern era has been enlightening, creatively awesome, and illuminating, but it's thrown the darkest contrast shadow over everything else. In a planetary potential-disaster situation, news coverage in my country has all been about first-world problems - about the inconvenience of having to eat apples instead of oranges while, not even half the planet away, folks still don't have clean water, enough to eat, the most basic healthcare, or the opportunity not to be brutalised and displaced by people with guns.
Humanity - you tried. It was reasonably awesome in the face of very large obstacles. Now try harder, looking outwards this time. (And remember this next time we need a rush-job vaccine for something awful that doesn't affect the rich countries too.)
