Hospital-ity
1 June 2019 06:14Thanks to being put in a side room, I had a rasonable night's sleep. The pain is starting to kick in, but the anaesthetist wrote me up for a range of pills and potions. I'm still on oxygen and stuff, but I can move about if I remember to disconnect myself and/or gather up the portable equipment. I have a drain in each of the wounds, and funky cuffs around my lower legs tht inflaate and deflate to massage my blood flow. Plus the oxygen, and a wotsit in the back of my hand that only recently got disconnected from a drip. My room is en-suite, which is just as well considering the performance involved in getting out of bed!
I still haven't dug out my glasses, so I'm typing this and hoping for the best. I had the presence of mind to pack my portable keyboard, so at least I don't ahve to hunt and peck on a blurry phone screen! If this post is mess of typos, I'm blaming the morphine.
I thought that it would be a nasty shock to look in th mirror and see my new shape, but no - I just saw a flat=chested me. The dressings are huge and won't come off at least until I can have the drains taken out, so I stil have the shock of seeing the scars to come. I know what to expect, though, and that my surgeon took care to respect my wishes and try for 'neat and tidy'.
I was thinking I might go home late this morning, but I really needed that morphine dose, and I still feel wobbly if I stop snorting the oxygen. So, I probably have at least the rest of the day here, with the exciting adventure of hospital food along the way.
Thank you so much, folks who sent kind wishes and good=lucks!
