List three fannish things I'd like to receive? Snowflake is right, that challenge looks deceptively easy.
What more does a fanwriter want? My thrill as a fannish consumer is seeing what others are inspired to create all by themselves, based on the shared canon we both love, without any reference to my preferences.
Most of the things I genuinely wish for aren't on a person-to-person wish-granting level. I wish reposting/translating without creator permission didn't exist and never had. I wish I could register with the name "Nym" everywhere instead of having to find variants because it's taken or it's too short. I wish I'd been born into enough money that I could devote my entire life to writing fanfic and setting up fannish infrastructure to help fandom do what we do without interference from advertisers or the morality police. I wish I could go back to my days of interviewing and interacting with the creative people behind the camera - having the energy, time, mobility, contacts, and money to do that - because their shiny inspiration and creative energy rubs off and makes me write even more fanfic. I wish I had a vid-making suite that I both know how to use and can afford to register.
I'm equally crap at making birthday and Christmas lists. Always have been. It's not because I'd be shy about asking if there was something grantable that I wished for; no harm in tossing the request out there and seeing if anyone wants to take it on, as long as one doesn't mind if nothing happens. I've written quite a few fanfics in response to that sort of request. What would I like? What would you like to give?
Snowflake Challenge #6 - failed.
- Feedback on my fanfics. Discussion of. Recs of. Obviously! But that's not the sort of gift you can ask for - the point of audience-author feedback is that the work in question moved someone to send it. If the story didn't move them to want to say something, what does my wish have to do with it? Someone responding to my personal wish isn't necessarily eager to respond to my actual fanfic.
