I thought that 2018 had pretty much been a write-off for me, fannishly speaking. It's only over the past few days that I've taken stock of how much Big Finish audio (Doctor Who, Torchwood and spinoffs) I've consumed this year. I haven't been up to writing, or to going for walks, to exercising, to reading, or even to watching TV. I've just been surviving and conserving my strength between one exhausting RL committment and the next. What I have done for at least part of most days, and during many bad nights, is listen to Big Finish. I've got around to hearing stuff that I bought back in the pre-download era and never unwrapped. I've got around to trying new ranges and characters. I've even caught right up to date with a few storylines, though give it a month or two and I'll be behind all over again. I've had a second try at some of the titles that didn't float my boat the first time - the ones I never finished listening to, or never re-listened to before, and been grateful for the distraction rather than annoyed that I spent money on something that wasn't my cup of tea. And I've turned my head full of Big Finish trivia into a web site full of cross-referencing, so I don't have to remember it all and can just look it up instead.

So, it's been a rubbish year in terms of being creatively fannish. It's been a rubbish year full stop. But I have managed to consume an awful lot of new material, the creative energy of which is bound to squirm its way back out as fanfic at some point. It's something to be going on with.
